Ukiyo-e Woodblock
Your photo, reborn as a handcrafted Edo-period woodblock print.

What it does
Reimagine your photo as a handcrafted Ukiyo-e woodblock print — carved contour lines, layered pigments, and washi paper texture — with your pose and composition kept intact.
When to use it
- Turn a favorite portrait into a museum-style Japanese woodblock print
- Create timeless, gallery-feel profile pictures and avatars
- Reimagine travel and landscape photos as traditional Edo-period scenery
- Make distinctive prints for gifts, cards, and personal wall art
- Build a cohesive Ukiyo-e themed set across several photos
- Give couple, family, or pet photos an elegant handcrafted treatment
When not to use it
- Keeping the photographic realism of the original image
- Anime, manga, or modern Japanese illustration looks
- Adding Japanese calligraphy, signatures, seals, or any text
- Heavily blurred, very dark, or low-resolution source photos
How it works
Upload a photo and upsa rebuilds it as a traditional woodblock print. The model reads the composition, pose, and identity in your image, then re-renders every surface with carved contour lines, flat layered pigment fields, and washi paper grain. Faces are simplified into calm ink contours, the environment is restyled into Ukiyo-e scenery, and handmade imperfections like ink bleed and imperfect registration are added so the result feels physically printed. The original layout and the person stay recognizable while only the rendering changes.

Frequently asked questions
Will the person still look like themselves?
Yes. The model keeps facial proportions, hairstyle, pose, and silhouette so the subject stays recognizable. Features are simplified into elegant ink contours the way a real Ukiyo-e artist would, but it stays a print of the same person, not a caricature.
Is this an anime or manga style?
No. Ukiyo-e Woodblock targets authentic Edo-period printmaking, not modern illustration. It avoids anime eyes, manga exaggeration, and cartoon styling, aiming instead for a handcrafted, historical, museum-quality look.
Will it add Japanese text, signatures, or seals?
No. The result contains zero readable text or symbols — no kanji, calligraphy, artist stamps, or watermarks. The image is purely the printed artwork itself.
What kind of photo works best?
Sharp, well-lit photos with a clear subject and a readable composition give the strongest results. Very dark, blurry, or low-resolution images leave the model less detail to carve into clean contour lines.
Does the result have borders or a paper frame?
No. Every result is full-bleed — the artwork runs edge to edge with no white borders, paper margins, or framing lines. Washi paper texture appears inside the artwork, not around it.
Can I use the result commercially?
Yes — generated images on upsa are yours to use for personal and commercial purposes. We recommend you keep the consent and rights to the source photo as well, since the output preserves the identity in it.
How long are my photos stored?
Source uploads and generated results are stored for 48 and then automatically deleted from upsa's storage. We don't train any model on your photos.
AI results vary
Each generation uses a different random seed, so your result may not exactly match the example shown. If the first try doesn't fit what you had in mind, run it again — output differs noticeably between runs.
